The following is printed with permission of Kaishaku, a regular reader here. This is a composite of two different emails. Its been slightly rearranged to be in chronological order:

About two weeks ago my mom's 94 Honda Accord was stolen right out of the driveway. Apparently everyone in the world finds this reason to tell me all about how Hondas are stolen more than anything else and that I should have gotten [insert domestic car here] instead. Yeah, I know.

Well, regardless: the day before yesterday, the car was recovered. The guy who stole it was driving it around in a neighboring county with a stolen license plate. He apparently did something dumb enough to make the cops run his plate. Arrest ensues, etc.

He had done some modifications to the car while it was in his possession.

The car was returned to us with new 18-inch chrome rims, new Kumho Ecsta Supra 225/40Z/R18 tires, new air cleaner, new flip-out Sony CD player, two-channel amplifier, four 12" subwoofers, and two "SUPER-STREET" decals. Also found were things such as a nice cell phone with Internet access, cologne, lots of Spanish CDs, etc.

What's also amusing is that the stuff was all horribly installed. The guy obviously knew nothing about electronics. Instead of hooking everything up to the ignition circuit, he just daisy chained it directly to the battery. No wonder it was found with a dead battery....

Oh, and underneath the floor mat there's charring from where wires melted and burned into the carpet and rubber.

We're going to sell the car, because, even though the police have said we can keep that stuff, it's obviously super, scorching hot, and we figure that either the thief or one of his friends might be wanting some of their stuff back.

Yeah, that and its all probably fried too.
