Soapboxing at a Forward on US Trade Issues
5/7/1

-- I get this Forward--

Regarding job layoffs in the U.S.:

Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SING APORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA). After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in.....AMERICA.....

Heck, I love free enterprise. I'm wearing chinese boots, chinese jeans, and probably a chinese shirt. I don't feel like looking at the tag. My socks are american, maybe.

If this guy was up on things, and maybe used iPing.com to wake up, he could have an american company give him a wakeup call on his american cell phone over american long distance lines for free.

It is also worth noting that his consumables, his food, soap, etc. Were all made in the US. In fact, the food that those Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese were eating may have been grown here or the meat animals could have been fed with American soybeans. And I'd have to say that most people's money, I know mine is like this, goes toward my American made house and american made food, whether in a restaurant or at home.

Heck, my coffee pot doesn't cost as much as my meal last friday night.

You wanna talk trade problems. Let's not sell uncut lumber to Japan.

As far as consumer products, do we want to make those socks or shirts? Or coffee makers? The technology is old and lame. It's assembly. We can farm that out to the [name of any 2nd world country].

Soapbox soapbox, blah blah blah.
